Former Navy SEAL Clint Emerson, author of 100 Deadly Skills, explains in the video below why it is healthy to end a shower with cold water.
It is understandable that people typically enjoy a warm or hot shower. It relaxes the body and relieves aches and pains. Furthermore, it can improve respiratory congestion and even reduce anxiety. Yet, many of us don’t realize that there are many health benefits when you end a shower with cold water.
That cold water is therapy. Even though it was torture, it’s therapy so that it keeps you healthy, keeps your joints and inflammation down, vasoconstricts everything down and allows you to keep moving forward, hopefully without any more injury. ~ Navy SEAL Clint Emerson
Here’s a recap of the benefits that Emerson highlights in his video.
Ending a shower with cold water:
- Increases the pace of the body’s recovery after physically strenuous activity.
- Vasoconstricts the entire body, squeezing out lactic acid.
- Lowers inflammation in the joints.
- Decreases the possibility of injury.
Of course, showering in cold water can be very startling. Regardless, there are many health benefits especially if you want to keep moving forward with fewer aches and injuries.
