We all go through slumps with our sexual drive. These slumps can be triggered by the birth of a child, stress, or a myriad of other life circumstances, or physical conditions. While sexual intimacy is an opportunity to deeply connect with another human being, the lack of intimacy can create friction and unnecessary space in the best of relationships. Below is a list of seven gentle yoga postures that you can add into your regular home practice to help increase your libido and get your sex life back on tract.
1. Cat-Dog
Inhale into cat
Exhale into dog
Keep this a dynamic movement, linking breath to spinal flexion. Repeat several times.
2. Dragon
Hold for several breaths on each leg. If you experience knee pain, walk your front foot away from your body so its knee remains behind the ankle. Relax into the pelvis.
3. Pigeon
In order to keep it active and not collapse, consistently draw the bent leg hip back and the straight leg hip forward. Also, as you inhale feel your torso grow longer. As you exhale allow yourself to fold deeper toward the floor.
4. Eagle
On an inhale: cross your arms at the elbows coming palm to palm or back of hand to back of hand. Draw hands upward while pressing shoulders down.
On an exhale: squat and cross opposite leg on top. You can leave your top leg’s toes on the floor for support, or tuck the toes behind the calf of the standing leg.
Sink into the legs. Extend upward through the torso and arms.
5. Supported Bridge
Keep feet hip width apart.
On an inhale, tuck the tail and lift hips toward the ceiling. Option one is to stay here, or slide a prop under your hips. Option two, clasp hands behind your back and walk your shoulders underneath you. Be sure to press into the back of the head and lift the chin to protect the curve of your neck.
6. Reclining Bound Angle
Use props under the knee joints for tights hips, or if your experience knee pain.
7. Happy Baby
Reach between the knees and grab the outer edges of the feet. Use the arms to pull the knees towards the floor while spreading the legs. Gently rock from side to side massaging the spine.
