Life in today’s world seems like it is out to keep people stressed. From having to pay bills and loans to trying to keep up with social standards, it can be overwhelming at times. Even worse, when you think that you have found some peace, a social media notification introduces you to the idea that you don’t have life figured out as well as you think.
This desire to catch up with everything will leave you stressed and borderline depressed. It is only when you can truly find happiness in your current life stage that you can truly live life to the fullest. Lucky for you, there are countless techniques you can use to switch your Zen back on when feeling low and find your happiness again.
Here are a few insightful tips for finding your Zen:
Find Time to Unplug
Social media, emails and even TV commercials are meant to keep you hooked to them. What good are they if they often leave you in constant sadness? There will always be someone happier than you, wealthier than you, and with a more beautiful life than yours. Commercials will always feature desirable products and emails will always have pressuring messages from your boss.
The difference is if you allow these negative messages to be the only thing you focus on every day. Take some time off all sorts of media to do you. This time can range from a day during the weekend or one hour each day. Steal time from your busy schedule to find some calm.
Appreciate Where You Are Before Moving Forward
Most businesses make money by pointing out flaws in your life. A weight loss business will call you fat just to sell their product. Cosmetic businesses will laugh at your pimples just to sell you acne removal products. What’s worse is that even once you have bought these products, others will still be gunning for you as a customer.
Once you shed some weight, the fashion industry will tell you that plus size women are what men want. On the other hand, the same cosmetic companies will sell you makeup claiming that you aren’t pretty enough despite eliminating your acne. This constant loop of trying to fit with the social standards can be draining.
It is only when you feel comfortable in your current position that you can break this loop. Sure, you may want to lose some weight, but you will not do so from the pressures of society. You will do so while seeking happiness. Search for the peace in your job, body, and relationships despite the flaws.
Value Sleep
There is nothing that can replace the Zen that you can get from deep undisturbed sleep. In fact, sleep deprivation increases the rate of production of your stress hormones. At least ensure that you get around 7-8 hours of sleep each night. It might be wise to commit to practices that will improve your sleep cycle.
For instance, you should reduce all the noise and light that gets into your room when sleeping. On the other hand, limit exposure to blue light sources such as smartphones and TVs half an hour before taking a nap. Lastly, take foods that improve your sleep quality.
Create a Strong Morning Routine
The vibe in which you spend your morning will mostly get echoed throughout the rest of your day. Start in a sad mood; the rest of the day will be quite sorrowful. That’s why your day is almost always bound to be slow if the first thing you do after waking up is to look at your phone.
Have a morning routine that inspires you to carry on with your day. For instance, you can start every morning by thinking about everything that is going right in your life at the moment. You should also hang a poster with motivational quotes like ‘one day at a time’ on your wall to keep you going. Most importantly, use this time to think about what you want to achieve by the end of the day.
Live A Little
Peace can only be achieved when you are relaxed. What better time is there to relax than when happy? Sadly, as people age, life demands more from them as they forget the things that put a smile on their face. When did you last laugh so hard that you had to stop to catch your breath?
Hang around people with whom you can create these moments. Alternatively, think of something silly to do to get some stress off your back. Sometimes, something as simple as trying to say the word ‘fart’ without smiling might be enough to relax. Remember, life commitments will always be present, but you can only achieve them well while at peace with yourself.
In a sea of stress and toxicity, create your own island of peace and harmony. Sometimes, getting enough sleep, meditating and even starting your day the right way might be what you need to achieve Zen. During times of adversity, this peace will help keep you together. Prioritize peace to live a good life.
